Seagate Hard Disk DriveSeagate hard disk donor parts stock list

Details of some of the stock which CDR – Manchester Data Recovery Services – holds is now listed here: Seagate Donor Parts Stock.

The main requirements for Seagate donor HDDs:

  • Motor bearings for Barracuda 7200.10 and 7200.11
  • Read-write heads – matching the model number and certain characters of the serial number. Please note that the head-map may differ across HDDs even where details on the manufacturer label may match. This is common in Seagate Momentus 5400.4 and above, and also the Seagate Barracuda / Desktop 7200.14 in 2000GB HDDs.
  • Printed circuit boards – Seagate HDDs have good tolerance for use of PCBs, and exact match on all revisions is not necessarily required. Matching the number listed on the main MCU provides a good chance of success.
  • Firmware – Due to the architecture of Seagate firmware the use of donor firmware is fairly infrequent compared with working on other manufacturers of HDD.
