I bought a 1TB memory stick on Amazon, following 10GB of data saving it stopped working. I discussed with my colleague in hospital, Parisa, who took the extra effort of finding someone to help. She... consulted a few experts and all of them suggested that I contact John Reid at Cheadle DATA Recovery. John diagnosed the problem. It was a counterfeit device and although it says 1TB it actually was a 16GB memory stick and was a fictitious product. John provided fair, thorough and professional advice and did not take any payment for this consultative service. I have purchased a 1TB disk from John and have been using it with absolutely no problems. I thank John immensely and would highly recommend him. I would also like to thank my colleague, Parisa, for her support in finding John.read more

We suffered a power cut that most probably led to a hard drive failure. This combined with my (admittedly) relaxed attitude to backing things up meant we lost years of data - mostly photos. I was... going to write this off and put it down to experience but was persuaded by my wife to look for someone who could recover the data. To cut a long story short John at Cheadle DATA Recovery was able to recover pretty much all we'd thought was lost. For no fee he analysed the failed drive to give us an idea of what could be recovered and told us the likely cost should we wish to go ahead which we did. We now have years of photos that we'd almost forgotten about to sort out! I would recommend his services to anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation.read more

After my 2TB hard drive took a bump containing a lifetime's worth of media and important documents, I was at a loss. I contacted many local companies, of which none were able to guarantee a maximum I would be paying, and enticing me instead with relatively low starting prices.By chance, Cheadle Data Recovery came through my search (NOT local to me) and it really does merit its outstanding reviews. From the first phone conversation I had with John, I was given clarity about the price points. A maximum quote was given to me from the offset, with an emphasis on 'no recovery, no fee' basis. The process was explained to me at every point, including details of the diagnosis. John showed me the mechanisms of the different hard drives, and ways they can be damaged. This was something I appreciated considering the price of recovery, that I understood the intricacy of the work.I was kept updated via email throughout and was emailed a list of the recovered data so I could look over it, prior to any payments being made.A professional and frankly honest company. Very pleased with the 100% recovery! Thank you.

Unfortunately there are many firms offering data recovery who give the business a bad name. John Reid at Cheadle is one of the good guys. Clear communication, reasonable prices and professional service. I would use him for any future data recovery needs I had without hesitation and I'm very happy to give him a 5 star review.

Would definitely use again

Having already taken a macbook to another company for data retrival John at Cheadle Data was still happy to give advice and support by email and did eventually take a look at the drive. He confirmed that it was not possible in this case to do anything further. What I did like was John's professionalism and willingness to engage in communication. I will certainly go to them first next time I encounter similar problems. First rate service.

I contacted Cheadle Data Recovery due to all the 5 star reviews and I'm glad I did. John managed to retrieve 100% of my data after my drive suffered from bad sectors. Luckily the data could be retrieved with software tools instead of having to open the drive, which meant the cost was on the lower end of the scale.

Fantastic service with frequent updates on job progressThis is a recovery service you can actually trust!Picks up the phone straight away and answers emails very quickly.I look forward to working with them in the future for my customers hard drive repair needs. The prices are clear and up front from the very beginning. One price for if the Drive has a lesser software problem and a higher price if it turns out it is mechanical. Both of mine were the lower "software" price, no upselling/scams here of skyrocketing prices once they have your drive to extort you.You receive a file via email with everything that can be recovered before even paying. So if your files aren't there or not recoverable, you can cancel the job and be on your way!Incredible customer experience, nothing is more terrifying than the prospect of paying money and potentially not even getting your data back.I received an email when my device arrived with them and every stage it went through. At no point was I worried or questioning what was going on with the recovery. So happy to have found someone trustworthy in this field notorious for cowboys who damage your drives and charge you for it. The prospect of now offering a reliable hard drive repair service to my customers is incredibly comforting.I sent an old drive from a piece of medical machinery under "emergency" time scales as it was vital to get it back for patients. It was back in my hands with a near 100% recover of my files in LESS than a week INCLUDING shipping times! Incredible.I was happy, my customer was especially happy. Can't recommend highly enough.

I am extremely happy with the service from John at Cheadle data recovery. I had previously send my drive to another nationwide recovery company who were not upfront with their costs and would have cost me more than twice the price that John did the work for. A very professional and helpful company that i would highly recommend to anyone with a dat recovery issue.Mike

After my hard drive dying on me, I took it to Curry's and paid £90 to use the Team No Know service. I sent the hard drive off and then received a phone call telling me I needed to pay £300 for a part that could only be located in America and threw a load of computer jargon at me which I didn't understand!. After finding this very suspicious, I asked for my hard drive to be returned to me. John was then recommended to me through an associate who had just used John for a successful data retrieval. From the offset John was so professional with me, he explained everything in detail and in a language I would understand. John managed to retrieve an excellent percentage of the data and funny enough the part needed could be found in the UK and didn't cost £300!. I then went back to Curries and asked for my £90 back which they gave me. When I asked why I was being told a needed to handover £300 for a part only found in America, their answer was "oh, I don't know what they do when the items get sent" - maybe that's the problem! Massive thanks to John for saving my degree work and very sentimental photos. Very, very professional and will definitely recommend! Thanks John!.

I had a Western Digital 8TB disk fail after I plugged a 19v laptop cable in to a HDD caddy with my old disk in instead of the supplied cable, by mistake. I chose John based on other reviews, and was able to drop off with him the same day.As others have said, John is clearly passionate and well-informed about this area, and I actually learnt quite a bit from him, which I had never known before.I left my disk with him, and he was able to retrieve 100% of my data and also offered me a choice of new disks based on my intended usage. Throughout he was very responsive, and made everything clear about where the process was upto.John has shipped the new disk shipped back to me and it works beautifully, and everything is exactly as I left it before the unfortunate incident.I hope I never get another disk fail, and that this will teach me about backing my data up is important, but I'd choose John again straight away if I needed disk help in future.Thank you John!

Highly recommended. I had a Seagate external hard drive fail whilst it was still under warranty, for no apparent reason. Cheadle Data Recovery were at all times professional, responsive and helpful, clearly explaining and answering my questions at every part of the process. They managed to retrieve all my files from the hard drive. Seagate's own data recovery services would have been much slower and had misleading pricing. Very grateful to have found this place instead! Excellent service!

My hard drive took a slight knock but would no longer read. John was really upfront with me about the work involved to recover my data and very transparent on prices. I searched around for comparable prices and found CDR to be competitive in the market. John recovered 98% of my data which I was very pleased with. He operates on a 'no-recovery, no-fee'basis. A drive that I had randomly failed and I discovered a bit of information on YouTube and other places about how unreliable that drive was and what the problem was likely to be. Cheadle Recovery did not just look at my drive without asking for a fee but also could tell me over the phone that it was a mechanical failure including directing me to a fuller explanation on their website. This gave me a lot of confidence to send my drive over and I was informed completely before they opened up the drive what consequence that would bring and also what was likely going on. The information given over the phone helped my own research greatly in understanding what was actually being done to recover my Data. I am incredibly relieved that only 12 gb of the 1.2 tb of data on my drive was corrupted and I have recieved even the large photo library, final cut x and logic x files I thought might be hard to get back. I was so worried I wouldn’t find a company I would trust enough to send them my broken drive.

My 1TB Seagate hard drive failed one day with a very unhelpful message at boot up saying 'SMART drive detects imminent failure : failing attribute #05 to minimise risk of data loss, back up the contents of your hard drive and run DPS self-test in F10 set up'. How I was to back up my data I dont know as I could not get win10 to boot!I tried to get my data recovered myself using an online free programme called EaseUS. I spent many days going round in circles as the programme kept stalling. I did not know whether it was mechanical damage or a disk error.I looked online for good reviews and found Cheadle DATA Recovery Ltd as about 15 years earlier I remember giving my disk to a local computer shop and me getting the disk back and no data.I called John at CDRL and he explained it sounded like a non-mechanical problem so offered his less costly option. I also opted for the 7 to 9 working day service. Not cheap at £395.99 including new disk, courier service & VAT but according to reviews I was confident the costs would not increase whilst having a good chance of success.I was able to track the progress online from receipt, to initial cloning of the disk, to the folder and file structure being built. On working day 9 I received the file structure, confirmed everything was recovered, paid and I received a disk 2 days later.Turned out that the problem was disk errors that the heads could not by-pass and a firmware update was needed. i.e. I was never going to get any success via online programmes.I am very grateful to John for his skills and professionalism.

Excellent professional communication and constant updates on the situatuion at regular intervals. I didn't expect everything to run so smootly from start to finish... as a university student with VERY close deadlines, it wasn't a matter of losing all my critical files/assignments, it was about failing the enitire year due to carelessness (not backing up regularly)... Now, with everything fully recovered, I can say without a doubt that I cannot recommend John's services enough! Pricey, as all data recovery services tend to be, but very convenient for the customer. The "No-Recovery, No-Fee" / free diagnostic aspects are quite reassuring! And once again, thank you!

I cannot recommend Cheadle Data Recovery and Dr John Reid highly enough. You will be hard placed to find a more responsible, professional and thoroughly honest evaluation for your data recovery. Unfortunately in my case it wasn't possible to recover the data through no fault of John and his company. I had previously sent my internal hdd which had simply failed and not suffered any physical damage to a company who are 'prominent' in the data recovery 'field'. They claimed they could recover my data but at an exorbitant cost. I refused and had my hdd returned. I then sent it to John who on opening sent me the picture below. Remember the hdd had just failed and had not suffered any physical abuse. The picture and John's assessment clearly showed that the platter had been subjected to horrendous scratching and mishandling. John gave me a comprehensive explanation and an honest evaluation spending some time on my disk. As per Cheadle's claim there was no recovery so no charge even after the effort John had put into communicating with me. Don't risk it - go to Cheadle Data Recovery first.
