John was clearly very knowlegable about the data recovery process and was able to answer all of my questions in the lead up to beginning work on the drive.CDR are very open about the costs and difficulties involved in recovering the data from the drive. The full final price is set from the outset including cost of replacement parts with no hidden fees down the line.I am very satifisfied with the service from Cheadle Data Recovery and, while I hope not be in the position of requiring their services in future, should the need arise I would be more than happy to trust John again with the recovery process.read more

After losing my husband earlier this year, I took such pleasure in watching videos of our lives together and our small children as they grew up. I was then so shocked to find that the hard disk... drive on which the digitised videos were failed. Through a colleague, I found John and Cheadle Data Recovery. Although a very painstaking task which he wasn't at all sure was going to work, he managed to get probably 80-90% of the videos back, much to my absolute delight. Simply amazing!My world had fallen apart when the computer crashed couple of weeks before Christmas. Everything, yes everything was on there all by business stuff for the last about 15 years. A good friend of mine had the computer and replaced the hard drive gave me the computer back to get going, whist keeping the old hard drive to retrieve all the information on it.A couple more weeks and was told ‘some of the data had been retrieved ‘but sadly some couldn’t be but would keep trying, another couple of weeks and I was given a hard drive with the retrieved data.80% had been recovered however the most important information was the 20% that was ‘no longer retrievable’!The pain and agony as it was all financials that I desperately needed. My friend had suggested to contact CDR ‘Cheshire Data Recovery’ to see they could help and also another friend had mentioned them too!What a refreshing change to get a prompt and positive response from John, from the initial contact, phone conversation with full in depth explanation of what’s happened, what could be done and the possible outcome filled me with full confidence knowing I was dealing with someone who had a passion for his work and more so wanting to help.No over promises but statements of what would happen, I posted off the hard drive and next day got a response to say john was in possession of the hard drive and the time schedule of when it may be in the system. Sadly my hard drive was more damaged due to the times the data was tried to be retrieved, which meant some parts had to be ordered to rebuild my hard drive. I can’t explain how grateful I am for finding Cheadle Data Recovery Ltd. My main storage hard drive were over 2 years of customer work (mainly book cover designs) and years of my own personal writing and illustration work suddenly stopped working. My online backup had failed also (on oversight on my part). After having a few people try to retrieve the data but unable to, I was ready to admit defeat and accept it was all lost. But then I found CDR and after a chat with John who explained everything clearly, I handed over the drive. He returned 100% of all my data! I was in a bit of a panic. I had succeeded in killing all three hard drives in my computer: the 2TB data drive, the 2TB bits and pieces drive and the 5TB back-up drive. Of course, there was practically nothing backed-up on cloud or anywhere else and this basically meant I had lost EVERYTHING!The search for a possible recovery began - and it was a bit of a nightmare, with several extremely suspect operators. However, I narrowed my options down to three I could reach from Chester and John Reid came over by far the best.I went to see him by appointment and he was just as kind and considerate as he had been on the phone. He took away my three drives and quickly confirmed electrical control problems with all three and mechanical damage as well in two of them. He explained what had almost certainly happened (which included gently educating me in how SATA power cables from different PSU makers might look the same but connections sometimes aren't) and came back with a very realistic quote and high hopes of recovering much/all of my lost data on a no recovery, no fee basis. Unlike some outfits there was no up-front assessment fee or other hidden charges.The main data drive was very tricky, but he succeeded in finding a suitable donor drive and finding that everything on it was recoverable. He also got the back-up drive sufficiently operational to recover everything that, which ultimately meant we could ignore the other drive. So I provided two brand new hard drives and John restored my data to them.Fantastic. And Dr Reid stuck to his promise on costs; I only had to pay for the two drives he'd recovered.Overall a wonderful service from an excellent fellow and I can highly recommend him if you have also killed your hard drives (or SSDs) and need rescuing.

I contacted Cheadle Data Recovery as I had dropped my laptop and damaged my HDD. I was aware that recovering any data was going to be costly, but was heartened by the clarity that Dr. John Reid provided regarding ‘no recovery, no fee’ and the fact that the prices quoted for a successful recovery were fixed.The communication throughout was impeccable from John, even though it took me two years to decide if I wanted to commit to the expense. At the end of the process, he managed to recover pretty much all of my lost data (very much worth the expense) and showed nothing but the highest level of professionalism and expertise.I cannot recommend Cheadle Data Recovery highly enough. If you’re unfortunate enough to end up in a situation similar to mine, you don’t need to look anywhere else other than CDR.

My experience with CDR has been amazing. As a Masters student whose deadline was round the corner, my external hard drive suddenly broke and I was very anxious about losing all of my work. I brought it straight to John, managing director of CDR, who was recommended to me by multiple PC stores. As CDR works on a ‘no recovery, no fee’ basis, it was more reassuring for me to take up John’s service. He was very professional throughout our conversations and was regularly keeping me in the loop with the progress of the data recovery. Thank goodness I came across Cheadle Data Recovery. I was the unofficial photographer at my best friend’s wedding and when I started to edit the photos, my SD card became corrupt and inaccessible. I was devastated. A few emails later and all the images have been recovered along with many other photos of happy family memories. I cannot thank them enough. Took a 2tb Seagate HDD to John after initially chatting on the phone. This particular drive I had is notorious for faulure due to very bad manufacturing. Needless to say John managed to revover 99% of the data. Very pleased. Will use again.

I used a WD 2tb hard drive to store a variety of file types but, most importantly to me, every photo I had from the last 15 years or so was on the drive, and it corrupted. My local IT guru was unable to recover anything and gave me Cheadle Data Recovery's contact details with the recommendation that he is the best that he knows of in England for this type of service. So I contacted CDR and dealt with John. I worked in IT for years so understand professional service and technical know how (tho' you may question why I only had 1 copy of all my files). John's service and know how are the epitome of professional, he didn't promise anything, explained fees would only be due upon my satisfaction with what he recovered. He made the entire process pain free and recovered, as far as I can tell ALL I wanted recovered. A few non essential files were not recovered. If whoever reads this is in the same predicament I was contact CDR before anyone else. IF John cannot recover your files the chances are nobody can. BUT...he'll be honest with you, and in this day and age, having to give our trust to strangers over matters we don't understand, in my views that's the mot you can ask.

In 2018 hitting a wrong key while installing a backup I was facing the worst possible scenario namely that I had lost all my files. I was pointed to Cheadle Data Recovery and following a phone call was invited to meet John Reed the same evening and leaving my MacBook with him it was not long before all my files were recovered. Moving forward to 2022 I consulted John about a damaged pdf file which contained vital data and received the same personal and sympathetic service. I don't usually write reviews but words fail to express the gratitude for the service received from Cheadle DATA Recovery. The morning after completing around 4-5 months of intensive work and having it stored on my new (4 months old) harddrive it stopped working and refused to mount. John was incredibly kind and very patient in explaining the whole process in great detail, and more importantly handling my information with the greatest of care. The fault was digital so he managed to recover ALL of my 4TB of info and even managed to save the drive itself. The service was super fast and John went above and beyond to get the drive back to me safely while dealing with various hurdles along the way. The communication was irreproachable, the TRANSPARENCY of the service was the best I have come across, honest and I felt beyond safe with my drive and the sensitive information on it. We had a business PC in for repair, which had lost one of its hard drives. The drive had lots of company data, together with Outlook data files. The hard drive was not being recognised by various operating systems. The business really wanted to have their data recovered if at all possible. There are numerous data recovery companies throughout the UK. We wanted to use one that was close to our office, as we believe in using local companies wherever possible. Googling for data recovery in Manchester, we found Cheadle Data Recovery Ltd, which had great reviews. So we filled in a data recovery request and submitted it. With 5 minutes John rang. He was very professional and explained everything. So we got CDR to attempt recovery of the data, which was done sucessfully. CDR provide a fantastic service. They keep you updated throughout the process. We will certainly use them again.

When my MacBook Pro died and I found that my WD My Cloud back up system had also malfunctioned, things didn't look good for my data, especially as the Touch Bar 2017 model I had uses an integrated non removable SSD attached to the failed logic board. I contacted some local data recovery companies who were unable to help. Looking further afield, there were other companies that I contacted but on discussion I doubted their ability to help. I then found Cheadle DATA Recovery and contacted John Reid for advice. Having done some research, I was aware of the problem I faced. John immediately gave me confidence that he knew how to handle the issue and there was a good chance of data recovery. He also reassured me they operated on a no-recovery, no-fee basis. Having then entrusted CDR with my laptop, I am pleased to report that they recovered all of the data files from the dead laptop. Recently had the pleasure of a failed hard drive in my MacBook. After researching some companies I decided to call Cheadle Data Recovery as they had plenty of great feedback. John explained the options and costings of trying to recover the data and was very upfront with the timings and what to expect. Luckily he managed to get all my files back with my work, and I picked up a replacement drive with them on. Super happy as they saved me and my clients a lot of time having to recreate them all the files. Would certainly recommend giving them a call to see if they can help - super service!

Excellent serive as described, revovered data from our Nas drive disks which was not as straight forward as a standard windows based recovery. Sent full list of files available before any charge. Data recieved back working still in the folders with file names. We use not ypical largew graphic files such as eps, cdr, ai which made the recovery even more pleasing, would use again
