CDR has not been able to find any technical information about how, or why data loss may occur. Typically Apple is quite secretive to the nature of faults on their own products, particularly when it comes to faults in storage devices. The full release from Apple simply reads:
“This update is recommended for MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, mid 2015) models. This update addresses a storage firmware issue that, in rare cases, may cause data corruption.”
It is likely that further details regarding the nature of failure will become apparent over the forthcoming weeks. When they do CDR shall update this post.
