My HDD gave up the ghost and although there was no sensitive information on it more a case of sentimental and historic information, I wanted to get the information if I could. I researched a lot of... companies via the internet that "say" they provide this service only to find that they really are just intermediaries who do not do the work themselves sometime offering a low price only to then hold you to ransom by saying the process is more complicated or it will take more specialized equipment to retrieve the data. CDR on the other hand do all the work themselves and explain clearly why the HDD may have failed, the process they undertake and how long it will take and then provide you with a price. You do not pay until the data has been recovered and until you decide whether or not the information you are looking to retrieve is retrievable. So, the process and price is 100% transparent. I was extremely happy with the service provided by CDR and Dr. John Reid and would not hesitate to recommend him/them for these services.read more

John @ Cheadle Data Recovery Ltd has been excellent. I was very anxious I might have lost access to 10 years of family photos amongst other Data which were stored on a nas drive. To make it more difficult to recover I had encrypted the drives when I initially set it up. 2 of my drives ended up failing so I approached another company to see if Data recovery was possible, I became sceptical when they were pushing me to send my nas drive in and so looked for another company. I came across CDR, which is only 20 mins away from my house. John was very up front about the costs involved which put my mind at ease so I went ahead with recovery. It looks like he's managed to recover all my data, I've now got it all back and been checking through everything and it all looks great. I'm so glad I went with Johns company rather than the first one I found. Can't recommend enough!

I had an issue with the port on my external hard drive so made an enquiry as to how much it would cost to get the data recovered. I received a call very promptly saying that it looked like it was a problem that I could solve myself instead of taking it in and gave detailed instructions on what to do and said that I could bring it in if I couldn't fix it myself.I followed John's instructions and was able to solve the problem without spending a penny. I really appreciated John's advice and I don't think there are many businesses who would offer this if it was in my best interest not to bring it in. Would highly recommend.

I had just got back from a Japan trip and had been storing my trip photos and videos on a HDD that already had lots of data stored on it. When I got home and looked to backup I found I could no longer access my drive. I had looked up and found various data recovery specialists and found many to have hidden fees even taking my HDD to another “specialist” before finding Cheadle Data Recovery. John was very clear and upfront with costs. He explained the damage done to my HDD and the work that had to be done. He retrieved all the data and I can’t thank him enough! We used Cheadle Data Recovery to recover data from a NAS box which unfortunately had 2 drives fail in a RAID5 at the same time! I would strongly recommend Cheadle Data recovery to do what it says on the tin! We live in Italy and my local IT technician was completely defeated when he replaced a hard drive and half our data was lost. On a return visit to Manchester I found this company, left the offending item with Dr Reid, who obviously knows all there is to know about the subject, and the information I had lost was returned to me, according to the stated terms, almost immediately. I thought I'd lost the majority of my last 12 month's photography, comprising tens of thousands of images, when three of my hard drives (two SSDs and a traditional drive) inexplicably became corrupted at the same time. To compound that I also had two Micro SD cards full of drone photographs which wouldn't open. I looked around on the Internet for data recovery services in the Cheshire area and was attracted to Cheadle Data Recovery's website. I 'phoned John who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable which gave me the confidence to use CDR. He also explained all the costs up-front and his 'no-recovery/no-fee' policy. He managed to recover all the lost data at the agreed price which was a massive relief to me. I wouldn't hesitate in using CDR again and cannot recommend them highly enough.

After a catastrophic HDD failure, I was shocked to find that my Mac’s Time Machine had excluded (apparently by default because it wasn’t an internal drive?) the drive from my backups. I then discovered I’d lost 52 years worth of photographs, many of which were irreplaceable.I contacted John after checking reviews of various data recovery companies and after discussing things with John, entrusted him with the recovery. John was very clear up front about costs and chances of recovery - given the specific type of Seagate drive involved - and then set about recovering the data.First efforts were largely successful after reading as far as the disk errors but after I was thinking that was it, John suggested he could made a second attempt - reading backwards to the errors - which indeed proved additionally successful. Results were:* Photo’s in library:  21,745* Photo’s unrecovered: 450* Unrecovered photo’s replaceable: 448* Unrecoverable photo’s lost: 1 (possibly 2)…which equates to a 99.99% success rate!I’ve undoubtedly not recovered other files but it was the photo’s (and memories) that are crucially important and I only have the highest recommendation for the efforts that John put in over and above what could be expected in recovering them.I’m hoping I never have such a situation again but if I do, I know where to come to for help.Many thanks, JohnKind regards,Stephen Owens

CDR did a great job of recovering files from one of my 1TB HDDs. Despite a broken R/W head CDR recovered 99% of the files on the broken drive and within the timescale quoted. I would highly recommend CDR for data recovery on HDDs.

I had an issue that my laptop would not boot up, I took the SSD drive out and tried it in an external housing plugged into another laptop. That didn't work either. My backups were slightly out of date and I needed files stored on the faulty SSD. I contacted CDR and they responded extremely quickly stating that they could recover some of the data. As the files needed were required quickly, CDR managed to recover most of the data held on the faulty SSD and they did so within a few days of commissioning them. John was extremely professional and knowledgeable and kept me up to date with the recovery process. It's one of those services you never want to need, but extremely happy and relieved when I did. It would have cost me a lot more in time and money to reproduce the data I needed to be recovered.If you need data recovering from a hard drive, CDR are the best at recovering the data (please note that recovery might not be possible depending upon damage caused).

My seven-year-old hard drive suffered a failure of the read/write heads and left my without access to project files that represented over a year of work and that I had foolishly failed to properly back up.Thankfully CDR was able to successfully recover 100% of the files. John was clearly very knowlegable about the data recovery process and was able to answer all of my questions in the lead up to beginning work on the drive.CDR are very open about the costs and difficulties involved in recovering the data from the drive. After losing my husband earlier this year, I took such pleasure in watching videos of our lives together and our small children as they grew up. I was then so shocked to find that the hard disk drive on which the digitised videos were failed. Through a colleague, I found John and Cheadle Data Recovery. Simply amazing!My world had fallen apart when the computer crashed couple of weeks before Christmas. Everything, yes everything was on there all by business stuff for the last about 15 years. A good friend of mine had the computer and replaced the hard drive gave me the computer back to get going, whist keeping the old hard drive to retrieve all the information on it.A couple more weeks and was told ‘some of the data had been retrieved ‘but sadly some couldn’t be but would keep trying, another couple of weeks and I was given a hard drive with the retrieved data.80% had been recovered however the most important information was the 20% that was ‘no longer retrievable’!The pain and agony as it was all financials that I desperately needed. My friend had suggested to contact CDR ‘Cheshire Data Recovery’ to see they could help and also another friend had mentioned them too!What a refreshing change to get a prompt and positive response from John, from the initial contact, phone conversation with full in depth explanation of what’s happened, what could be done and the possible outcome filled me with full confidence knowing I was dealing with someone who had a passion for his work and more so wanting to help.No over promises but statements of what would happen, I posted off the hard drive and next day got a response to say john was in possession of the hard drive and the time schedule of when it may be in the system. Sadly my hard drive was more damaged due to the times the data was tried to be retrieved, which meant some parts had to be ordered to rebuild my hard drive. I can’t explain how grateful I am for finding Cheadle Data Recovery Ltd. My main storage hard drive were over 2 years of customer work (mainly book cover designs) and years of my own personal writing and illustration work suddenly stopped working. My online backup had failed also (on oversight on my part). After having a few people try to retrieve the data but unable to, I was ready to admit defeat and accept it was all lost. I was in a bit of a panic. I had succeeded in killing all three hard drives in my computer: the 2TB data drive, the 2TB bits and pieces drive and the 5TB back-up drive. Of course, there was practically nothing backed-up on cloud or anywhere else and this basically meant I had lost EVERYTHING!The search for a possible recovery began - and it was a bit of a nightmare, with several extremely suspect operators. However, I narrowed my options down to three I could reach from Chester and John Reid came over by far the best.I went to see him by appointment and he was just as kind and considerate as he had been on the phone. He took away my three drives and quickly confirmed electrical control problems with all three and mechanical damage as well in two of them. He explained what had almost certainly happened (which included gently educating me in how SATA power cables from different PSU makers might look the same but connections sometimes aren't) and came back with a very realistic quote and high hopes of recovering much/all of my lost data on a no recovery, no fee basis. Unlike some outfits there was no up-front assessment fee or other hidden charges.The main data drive was very tricky, but he succeeded in finding a suitable donor drive and finding that everything on it was recoverable. He also got the back-up drive sufficiently operational to recover everything that, which ultimately meant we could ignore the other drive. So I provided two brand new hard drives and John restored my data to them.Fantastic. And Dr Reid stuck to his promise on costs; I only had to pay for the two drives he'd recovered.Overall a wonderful service from an excellent fellow and I can highly recommend him if you have also killed your hard drives (or SSDs) and need rescuing.

I contacted Cheadle Data Recovery as I had dropped my laptop and damaged my HDD. I was aware that recovering any data was going to be costly, but was heartened by the clarity that Dr. John Reid provided regarding ‘no recovery, no fee’ and the fact that the prices quoted for a successful recovery were fixed.The communication throughout was impeccable from John, even though it took me two years to decide if I wanted to commit to the expense. At the end of the process, he managed to recover pretty much all of my lost data (very much worth the expense) and showed nothing but the highest level of professionalism and expertise.I cannot recommend Cheadle Data Recovery highly enough. If you’re unfortunate enough to end up in a situation similar to mine, you don’t need to look anywhere else other than CDR.

My experience with CDR has been amazing. As a Masters student whose deadline was round the corner, my external hard drive suddenly broke and I was very anxious about losing all of my work. I brought it straight to John, managing director of CDR, who was recommended to me by multiple PC stores. As CDR works on a ‘no recovery, no fee’ basis, it was more reassuring for me to take up John’s service. He was very professional throughout our conversations and was regularly keeping me in the loop with the progress of the data recovery. He was also very patient with all the questions I had, and I am extremely grateful for how quick he retrieved my data (even through the weekend) under the ‘emergency service.’ On top of this, he ran a test on my new external hard drive just for further reassurance. Thank goodness I came across Cheadle Data Recovery. I was the unofficial photographer at my best friend’s wedding and when I started to edit the photos, my SD card became corrupt and inaccessible. I was devastated. A few emails later and all the images have been recovered along with many other photos of happy family memories. I cannot thank them enough.
