Hard Disk Drive donor parts inventory

WD My Passport headmap

Two ‘identical’ Western Digital My Passport hard disk drives. Not only did these have different head maps, but a different number of active surfaces.

CDR is currently in its ninth year of trading. During this period a large number of donor parts for hard disk drives have been accumulated. It is necessary to keep these organised and well documented as each day failed HDDs received in will require a matching part to attempt the recovery work. Having a library of donor parts allows for a fast turn around if an emergency service is required.

Finding a suitable donor part can be quite challenging as for some recovery work specific engineering revisions are required. These include finding HDDs with a matching head-map or printed circuit board.

Currently, only donor parts of the Western Digital stock is listed. The remainder of the Western Digital stock shall be added over the next 10 days. Once this is complete stock listings for other manufacturers shall be added.

CDR – Manchester Data Recovery Services – stock of donor parts.

Please note that CDR does not sell its stock, but it can offer a trade arrangement to other data recovery companies.
